Design challenges

During the design phase, the team faced challenges including the need to develop the design brief alongside the design to stay within budget. Lacking a defined User Requirements Specification (URS), RB Group worked closely with the client to create this essential document, ensuring the final project met all operational, functional, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, they had to accommodate design changes at short notice and integrate equipment supplier information early in the process to avoid later modifications.

Construction challenges

The construction phase presented several challenges, including the coordination of efforts between five different contractors and ensuring consistency between drawings while detecting potential clashes without the aid of a 3D model. Additionally, the team had to manage gaps between the contractors’ scopes of work and maintain clear delineation of which items belonged to each specific package.

Despite the challenges of COVID-19, client staff changes, contractor approaches, and supply chain disruptions, the project was delivered and commissioned to the clientís satisfaction. This success reinforced the strong, long-term relationship between the two companies and resulted in continued collaboration on future projects.
