We were very happy to join the Red Lion Public House Charity Golf Day which took place on Friday, 30th September 2022 in aid of the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Air Ambulance Charity.
As RB Plant has been based in Lenham for much of our 53 years in business, we have a long association with the Red Lion – in fact, they host our Christmas Party each year – and so we were delighted to sponsor this event in aid of a charity dedicated to saving lives.
Naturally, in addition to supporting the event, we also entered a team to compete in the 4-ball Texas-Scramble format competition…
The day started early at The Weald of Kent Golf Course with welcome bacon rolls for the combatants numbering 40 in total. Despite an ominous weather forecast predicting a significant storm to blow through the day, the golfing gods were kind to us, and all ten teams teed off in sunny weather.
Luckily, the weather held for the entire time the teams were on the course, and we regrouped on the 19th Tee to discuss the day’s triumphs, near misses, and downright golfing disasters over a cold beer. Once the scorecards had been submitted, we retired to the Red Lion for further analysis and prize giving.
Well done to the winners on the day: Chris Wise, Ross Edwards, Harrison Berkhauer Smith and Cameron Lang, and the team including Ross, landlord of the Red Lion, which scored a collective 49 points.
So, ‘How did RB plant get on?’ I hear you ask … well we can report an honourable joint third place on 44 points.
In the end, of course, the most important winner was the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Air Ambulance, with a total of £865 raised on the day and further donations due from the collection tins dotted around the Red Lion’s bars.
And finally… a massive thank you to Roy Berkhauer for all his hard work in organising the whole event and making it such a great success. Here’s to the next one 🏌️♂️🍻🚁
